Kona Skatepark is located here in our very own city,

Jacksonville Florida. It is the World's longest surviving skatepark, and listed in the Guinness World Book Of Records. Constructed in 1977, it glorifies unique concrete designs associated with 70’s skateboarding. As skateboarding changed so did Kona. Over the past 40 years, it has expanded to cover 6 acres and over one hundred thousand square feet of rideable terrain, making it the largest in the country. Over sixty thousand skaters and spectators visit Kona each year.  It’s on every skater's “bucket list”.

In 2016, visual artist Nicole “Nico”  Holderbaum received a SPARK Grant from the The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville and Florida Blue.

Holderbaum used the grant to launch the Jax Kid’s Mural Festival.  The initiative was held in the Urban Core four separate times throughout the calendar year.

Hosted by both the Jacksonville Landing and Hemming Park, the festival featured six freestanding walls with coloring-book style outlines designed by Holderbaum.

While the outline was completed by Holderbaum, the designs were colored-in by participating children using paint. The festival promoted inclusivity and was free to all. Jax Kid’s Mural Festival also included water activities and a skateboarding clinic facilitated by Instaramp.

The initiative evolved in October 2016 when it became the Jax Kid’s Mural Project and received a PNC Arts Alive grant. Since evolving, Kid’s Mural Project has painted 31 murals in 27 different Title 1 schools around Jacksonville, engaging at least 3,000 at-risk and underprivileged youth.

The Kid's Mural Project continues to engage youth and local artists in Jacksonville and beyond.

There will be various different mural walls at the event which will each feature a unique coloring-book-style design created by various different local and regional artists. There will also be live artwork and various art installations around the park, and unique photo opportunities. There will also be a special unveiling of the new mural painted by returning artists Halsi and Van Eggers on the Kona Bowl!

Kona Skate Park will be hosting a variety of different skateboarding contests and demonstrations throughout the day. There will also be a free skateboarding clinic for guests to learn how to skate provided by Kona and taught by local skateboarders.

There will be a variety of different local food trucks set up and selling amazing food during the day!

We are open to hosting vendors who share our same values: art, education, youth, and health. We ask that each vendor provide some sort of activity for guests. The activity can be a simple craft or a full on workshop or demonstration.
